Scientist-Applied Genomics (AG) & Genotype Service Laboratory (GSL)
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of “Scientist-Applied Genomics (AG) & Genotype Service Laboratory (GSL)” to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. This is a nationally recruited position.
The Job: To effectively collaborate with scientists from other disciplines like breeding, genetic resources, physiology, pathology, wide hybridization, entomology, bioinformatics and biometrics. Devoting 50% of time for taking care of day-day to operations in Genotyping Service Laboratory of CEG and 50% time in applied genomics research in legumes, the responsibilities include:
Crop genome analysis using modern genomics technologies like next generation sequencing and high-throughput genotyping technologies,
Development of diagnostic molecular markers for molecular breeding,
high throughput fingerprinting or re-sequencing of germplasm collections, mapping populations and breeding material for molecular breeding of drought tolerance, pest and disease resistance, and other agronomic traits,
Day-to-day operations in Genotyping Service Laboratory (GSL),
Offering genotyping services to partners, and
Participate in training courses related to GSL activities. Selected candidate is expected to contribute to write grant proposals, research papers and guide students, research technicians and scientific staff.
The Person: PhD in Biotechnology/Genetics/Molecular Biology with relevant post-doctoral experience in applied genomics. Experience of plant genomics, including high throughput genomics technologies such as next generation sequencing technologies and functional genomics and molecular breeding on one or more ICRISAT mandate crops would be an advantage.
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong publication record, fund raising ability and experience of modern molecular biology techniques applied to breeding. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment together with ICRISAT, NARS and commercial breeding programs is important. Experience supervising technicians and research students would be advantageous. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
The Reward: This position is in the Scientific and Managerial Group (SMG) of ICRISAT, with a competitive salary and benefits package paid in Indian rupees, which includes attractive perquisites. The position is initially for a three year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent.
