Research Associate

Job Description

As part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt of India funded project ‘Taxonomy and barcoding of nematodes ‘as part of the ITIS under MLR Program, a Research Associate position is open in the Integrative Taxonomy and Microbial Ecology Research Group, Department of Biological Sciences, IISERK. The position is initially for one year but could be extended upon satisfactory performance. The selected candidate will receive a salary of Rs 22,000 per month +30% HRA.

Essential Skills

As part of this project free-living marine nematodes from the West Bengal coastal stretches will be identified based on taxonomy, barcoded using high throughput sequencing techniques and hypotheses of marine nematode diversity will be tested. The selected RA will participate in field activities, develop the DNA barcoding library for free-living marine nematodes and undertake large scale biological surveys to estimate marine nematode diversity using DNA barcoding and high-throughput sequencing.

Requirement and Experience Details

Ph.D. in Marine Biology/Zoology/Ecology/Microbiology or candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis can also apply. Knowledge in free-living marine nematode taxonomy is a requisite. Since the project involves application of molecular techniques some knowledge in this field is also expected.
